"Tokyo Water Walks".
An investigation on the relationship between Tokyo's citizen and the water element present in the city.
The Tamagawa is a river. As a sudden tear in the fabric of the hallucinatory continuity of the urban texture of Tokyo, the Tamagawa appears suddenly and unexpectedly as a mirage of light and colors. Water for our eyes thirsty for space and horizons. The city emanates a sticky odor. It is a stone monster that cannot accept emptiness. Skilled strategist that secretly studies every possible move to conquer new domains. But the river endures. Strong as a destiny. Difficult to combat. The Tamagawa is a river of course but not only that. It’s pure space. It is a place where looking reveals nothing. It ‘s a safety valve. It’s water. It’s sun. It’s nature. All these things that the Tamagawa represents could seem obvious to common eyes. But not here. Not in the middle of one of the most densely urbanized areas in the world. The Tamagawa is a world other than the city. Metaphysical figures search its bed and its banks for a lost freedom. Freedom to breathe. Freedom to shout. Freedom to run. Freedom to play. Freedom to gaze. The city is watching us from outside. The sun theatrically illuminates the scene. Today is Sunday: let’s go to the river!
