Bodies that Matter. “Bodies that Matter” is an ongoing portrait project about the Freedom of Expression. Freedom to express sexuality, gender and diversity. Inspired by American gender theorist Judith Butler, the project investigates the possibility that gender is not fixed at birth but instead is constructed through a reiteration of acts. Taking advantage of the connecting power of social media, in March 2017, I have started to portray Berlin´s member of the LGBTQ+ community. The portraits where shot with an 8x10inches large format analog camera. With respect to the 35mm small format camera, working with a large format camera it´s slower. Everything has to be prepared carefully before pressing the shutter. For every subject just two images where taken. The subject has to stay still. There is no margin of error. As a result, every moment is loaded with energy and tension. The "click" at the end of the process is an intense moment of consciousness and presence. "Bodies that Matter" is a celebration of the Freedom to Be.
